Wormhole Animism at Steve Gilbert Studio
Artist Meghan Elizabeth Trainor presents Wormhole Animism, an exhibition that challenges the conventional narrative of science and technology as tools for control, extraction, and profit. Instead, Trainor reclaims their spiritual roots, offering a reimagined world where technology serves to connect us with the spiritual forces that shape our universe and consciousness.
The exhibition, on view at Steve Gilbert Studio, features sculptural works crafted from moss, copper wire, beeswax, seaweed, and functioning bog batteries. These materials evoke both the natural world and the technology that drives modern life. The works weave together the principles of quantum mechanics, black holes, holographic theory, computer memory, logic gates, and electricity with the ancient practices of witches, oracles, and diviners. Through this convergence of science, craft, and spirituality, Wormhole Animism reimagines technology not as a tool for dominance, but as a bridge to unseen energies and higher knowledge.
Inspired by Johannes Kepler’s cosmological studies and his witch mother’s travels to the moon, Trainor invites viewers to consider how early computer memory systems, astrophysics and quantum theory mirror the encoded wisdom of ancient and contemporary spiritual practices. In an era where technology is often weaponized or commercialized, Wormhole Animism invites us to reimagine our relationship with technological advancements, grounding them in practices of spiritual inquiry and connection.
