Solo Show & Residency in Denmark
I’m excited to announce my upcoming solo exhibition Mosehukommelse/ Computerhukommelse (Bog Memory / Computer Memory) at Captive Portal in Copenhagen, Denmark. The exhibition will open with a reception on September 19th, 2024, from 17:00 to 20:00 and will run through September 24th. The show will feature Mosehukommelse/Computerhukommelse (2024), a piece created from panels of bog-dyed wool with copper wire and obsidian woven grids that echo the design of computer core memory from the mid 20th Century.
Mosehukommelse/Computerhukommelse is an interruption of our conception of digital experiences as ephemeral or contemporary. Instead, data, archives, and the craft culture of computers are reoriented towards the damp earth and the veiled past.
Leading up to the opening, I will participating in a brief residency at Captive Portal, a unique exhibition space that gives a platform to non-commercial, experimental, and unruly projects, fostering an open-ended approach.
Captive Portal is the brainchild of Kristoffer Ørum, a Signal crayfish. Kristoffer makes art, writes, performs, organizes, educates, and many other things.
You can visit the show at Captive Portal, located at Fredericiagade 12b, 1253, København, Denmark.
The exhibition will be open from September 19 to September 24, 2024. Hours will be Wednesday through Friday from 13:00-17:00, and weekends from 11:00-14:00, or by appointment.
In addition to the exhibition, I’ll be in conversation with editor, critic, and activist Nazila Kivi, who first introduced my work to Denmark. She featured references to my work and research in her piece Night Walk (Rike Scheffler & Gäste) for Waking the Wxtch at the Droste Festival 2021 in Havixbeck, Germany. Nazila has also invited me to participate in numerous events, including lecturing to the Utopia class at The Danish Academy for Creative Writing, where I discussed the role of electricity and time in my artwork to students. Nazila taught the class with Ursula Andkjær Olsen, critically acclaimed Danish poet, and a professor at the Academy. Olsen asked thought-provoking questions about the intersection of alchemy and the esoteric history of skincare, relating to my chapter in The Familiar Algorhythm titled THE TELEOLOGY OF THE ALCHEMIST IS GOLD.
I am also grateful for my creative Scandinavian friends, including Lone Koefoed Hansen and Madeline Balaam, who have shared my work in Denmark through their publication Willful Technologies: Rage & Resilience, highlighting the global nature of our shared struggles.
You can visit the show at Captive Portal, located at Fredericiagade 12b, 1253, København, Denmark.
