SAFETY
Fresh Mochi Art Gallery
Seattle, WA
September 2022
Curated by Elizabeth Jameson

“Technology is a ritual. We create all sorts of devices and technologies in order to protect ourselves, our health, our kin, our communities, and anyone or anything else that is important to us. Throughout history, humans are especially adept at inventing devices that are highly ritualized mechanisms requiring some method of infusion, a harnessing or focusing or pouring of energy into an item in order to furnish it with a charge. Perhaps the item is wrapped in red thread or copper and placed somewhere particularly important.”

-Sharon Arnold

The collection created for Safety includes eight artworks shown in the gallery, a zine entitled Safety Manual, with an introduction by Sarah Lippek and a series of algorithmically generated NFT images hosted on OpenSea entitled Safety. The NFTs can also be seen here.

Capillary lava intelligence hid under the swirling stardust until finally he burst forth and kissed the salt sea.

She began counting lakeside, her mathematical object that was once a bone hidden in the night of the waxing moon.

She sang numbers bogside, counters of celestial objects hidden in the dark.

She wove copper and words to get back to the moon.
