Universal Mind Control at 2021 World Telekinesis Competition

Today marks the beginning of the World Telekinesis Competition Pandemic Relief Tournament.

In 2012, the last year of competitive play, my team, Universal Mind Control came in 2nd and since then we have been reigning semi-champions.
Please meet the team!

Sarah Bellum

This year I was proud to pass the the mantle of Team Captain on to Sarah Bellum, Firewalker. Spoonbender. That light which breaks yonder window. The wolf who stalks between. The unveiled eye. Burning like a library on fire.

James “the New Man” Newman

We are joined by James “the New Man” Newman. An evolutionary endpoint of the human race. Able to remain stationary or move at low terrestrial speeds without much difficulty. If locked in a box with a scintillation detector and a bottle of poison gas he enters a twilight existential state of questionable utility outside of poorly written pop-science philosophy texts making dubious ontological and moral distinctions.

Megghatron

And finally I settle into my new role as UMC Captain Emerita: I function as a pop-druid, not a pop-droid. Professional Digital Hedgewitch, Amateur Gardener, Metal Enthusiast. Most likely to solve problems with a bonfire.

The World Telekinesis Competition is a game in which teams from around the world compete to influence a candle using only the power of the mind. The game begins when a candle is lit at the center of the official game board, and lasts for one hour or until the candle is extinguished—whichever comes first. The goal of the game is to influence the way a candle melts—pushing the wax onto the opponent’s side of the game board. The team who pushes the most wax wins.

The WTC is a chance to test the powers of the mind. Can thoughts and intentions have real impact on things in the world? Does playing together help collect psychic resource? Can telekinesis be thought of as a tool for actual real-world change? If so, then the World Telekinesis Competition is not just a sport but an agent of social transformation, a training ground for minds wanting to make material difference. If the pen is mightier than the sword, then the imagination is yet mightier still—pens don’t write their own ideas, after all.

The World Telekinesis Competition is a project created by the Noxious Sector Arts Collective.

To the victors go the spoils,
Meghan "Megghatron" Trainor, UMC Captain Emerita
